Tyler Boebert, the eldest son of MAGA Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, is once again facing legal trouble. According to documents from the Windsor Police Department, confirmed by the Weld County District Attorney’s office, Tyler was cited on Friday, July 11, with a misdemeanor charge of child abuse.

Details surrounding the incident remain under wraps as of July 25. However, the court summons outlines that Tyler is being charged with criminal negligence in a case where no injury or death occurred. In a statement to the news outlet Westword, Boebert framed the episode as “a miscommunication on monitoring my young grandson that recently led to him getting out of our house.”

The 20-year-old’s brush with the law is the latest in a string of police encounters dating back several years. In September 2022, Tyler flipped his father’s SUV into a creek bed, leaving a passenger with multiple concussions and a serious hand laceration. He was ticketed for careless driving, but prosecutors eventually reduced the case to a defective-headlight citation as part of a plea deal.

In another high-profile incident, Tyler called authorities in January 2024 to report that his father, Jayson Boebert, had assaulted him at their Garfield County home. According to the arrest affidavit, Jayson allegedly “pushed Tyler to the ground and pushed his thumb into his mouth.”

Then, in February of that year, Tyler faced felony charges after allegedly stealing from vehicles and using stolen credit cards at gas stations. He was initially charged with more than a dozen counts but ultimately pleaded guilty to one charge of attempting to commit identity theft. In October, a judge granted him a two-year deferred judgment, allowing for the charge to be expunged if he completes his probation successfully. As part of his probation, Tyler was ordered to perform 80 hours of community service and to refrain from using any controlled substances.

It’s currently unclear whether the latest citation will jeopardize Tyler’s probation, which still has over a year remaining. The police report is not public, and no court filings have been made beyond a July 11 summons released by Windsor police. Tyler is expected to appear in court this September.

Tyler became a father in 2023. His mother relocated to Weld County from Colorado’s Western Slope after switching districts. She ran for and won the seat in Congressional District 4 in 2024.

In her statement, Boebert described the incident as a “one-time” occurrence, emphasizing that “no injury or physical abuse” took place. She confirmed the family had met with Child Protective Services.
